COMMUNITY IMPACT COUNCIL

New for 2008 is our Community Impact Council. This large committee has come together to look at the issues that we are facing here in Salem County and are focused on creating long lasting change. This group has replaced the 3 Vision Councils of Families and Children, Health and Safety, and Community Action.

The three target areas they are looking at are: Education, Income, and Health. Some of the Programs that this Council has worked on includes:

Parenting Forums: a variety of workshops to choose from with a range of topics and games & play for the children.

Success By 6 Parenting Tool Kit: A DVD and Parenting guide with information on various topics.

Book Bank Program: Through a partnership with Ranch Hope this project builds bookshelves and distributes them to locations where parents normally wait with children. They are filled with books that can be read while waiting and even taken to own. Currently we have 10 locations around the county.

Car Seat Inspections/ Bike Safety: Working with the Sheriff's Department and Safe Kids to ensure our children are safe when on the road.

Prescription Discount Card Program: The FamilyWize discount card is a program designed so that people can afford their prescriptions.

VITA/ EITC: Helping to build financial stability here in Salem County, volunteers prepare State and Federal Tax Returns to Low Income Individuals and Families.

Need Help? 2-1-1: Helping to spread the word about 2-1-1 where there is always a live person on the other end of the phone to give answers and help you find the services that you need.

Other programs include the Monthly Commodity Food Distribution and The Holiday Assistance Program.

If you would like to join the Community Impact Council, please call the United Way at 856-935-2538.
